Poverty and Participation in the Media

FreqOUT! recently attended an evaluation event delivered by Spectacle.
Poverty and Participation analysed how the media treats poverty and those affected by it.
The project questioned what type of stigmatisation and stereotyping does the media create and does it influence, bridge or increase the divide.
The project looked at the representation of poverty in programmes such as ‘Rich Kid, Poor Kid’, ‘The Tower’ and ‘The Secret Millionaire’, with interesting feedback from the communities involved in the making of the programmes.

You can review the films on the Spectacle blog, where the projects are analysed further.
